Nupur Potukuchi joins the group as its first PhD student

Welcome to the team, Nupur!

We are delighted to welcome Nupur Potukuchi, the first PhD student to join the Marine Transmissible Cancers Research Group. Nupur has also been accepted into the International Max Planck Research School of Marine Microbiology (MarMic), where she will pursue her doctoral training alongside her research in the group.

For her PhD, Nupur will investigatehost immunity as a potential barrier to the persistence and spread of bivalve transmissible neoplasia. Using cockles and their transmissible cancers as a model system, she will explore the genetic and evolutionary basis of host–cancer immune interactions. Her research aims to identify the molecular pathways and evolutionary signatures that determine whether the cockle immune system restricts or permits the persistence of BTN lineages and their transmission across species boundaries.

As the first PhD student of our newly established group, Nupur marks an important milestone for the Marine Transmissible Cancers Research Group. We are very happy to have her on board and look forward to the science and adventures ahead!
