Review of the year 2022

No water, no life. No blue, no green.

The days have become quite short, and unfortunately also rather rainy, and the year 2022 is rapidly coming to an end. It was another eventful year: Our researchers have done exciting research and experiments and many were able to present their results in high-profile journals. We celebrated the 30th anniversary of our institute with wonderful friends and colleagues. Some of our scientists received awards and prizes, for example Sina Schorn received the Joachium Jungius Award, Jan-Hendrik Hehemann has been awarded the ERC Consolidator Grant, Nicole Dubilier is now part of the Academy of Sciences of Northern Germany and Antje Boetius is "University teacher of the Year" and received the Carl-Friedrich-von-Weizsäcker-Prize. We took part in a few public events and welcomed the Marmic class of 2027. Laetitita Wilkins established a new Max Planck Research Group on Eco-Evolutionary Interactions. And much much more ...

It was an eventful year with nitrogen and oxygen, archaea, bacteria and viruses, deep sea and seegrasses, enzymes and proteins – and much more from the exciting world of marine microbiology! Many thanks to all our colleagues from far and near for a beautiful and successful year 2022!
