Research Profile
My work focuses on the combination of semantics, bioinformatics, and data analysis in aid of meaningfully mobilising ecological data and detecting structure in this complex and plastic context.
See my ORCID for more:
orcid.org/0000-0002-4366-3088
I apply omics-focused bioinformatics and multivariate statistics (see mb3is.megx.net/gustame) to the diverse data sets derived from microbial ecology investigations. I also develop resources to assist microbial ecologists in learning and effectively using these techniques.
Concurrently, I research environmental semantics and lead the Environment Ontology (ENVO; www.environmentontology.org) in support of semantically consistent data standardisation across and beyond the life sciences. I am also co-leading the Sustainable Development Goals Interface Ontology (SDGIO; github.com/SDG-InterfaceOntology/sdgio) to better link scientific output to societal goals.
My past training in biochemistry, cell biology, and marine microbiology grounds my current in silico work in biological knowledge.
