Dr. Ali Hakimzadeh joins the Marine Transmissible Cancers Research Group

Welcome to the team, Ali!

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ali Hakimzadeh to the Marine Transmissible Cancers Research Group as a postdoctoral researcher. Ali will lead the bioinformatic analyses of the group, integrating genomic, transcriptomic, and metagenomic datasets to investigate the origin, evolution, and interactions of transmissible cancers in marine bivalves.

Ali brings more than six years of experience in computational biology and multi-omics data analysis. He studied Zoology at the University of Tabriz before completing an MSc in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Siena, Italy, where he worked with clinical transcriptomic and cancer genomic data. He then moved to the University of Tartu, Estonia, to pursue a PhD in Ecoinformatics, expanding his research towards large-scale metagenomics, metabarcoding, environmental DNA, and microbial diversity.

His experience spanning cancer genomics, bioinformatics, and microbial ecology is particularly well suited to the interdisciplinary questions of our group. Welcome to Bremen and to the team, Ali!
