Structure and function of marine sediments, in particular:
- how are microbial conversions controlled by transport processes
- how can we explain the distribution of microbial species
Microbial conversions:
-photosynthesis and chemoautotrophy
-anaerobic microbial nitrogen, carbon and sulphur conversions
Studies on hot spots (seeps), microbial mats, biofilms
