Open Campus 2019: We show you the world in a water drop!

Jun 15, 2019

On June 15, 2019, the University of Bremen again invited all interested people from Bremen and to an OPEN CAMPUS. We were there and showed you the world of the smallest inhabitants on the university campus.

Under the motto "Open Worlds - Share Knowledge" we showed you what we are all about. In more than 40 pagoda tents set up in our campus park faculties, institutes, affiliated institutes, and various central research units gave fascinating insights into their works and projects. Besides an extensive and varied stage program, there were guided tours and other events, concerts and a poetry slam will take place on the open-air stage. The University of Bremen invited everybody to get a closer look behind the study and research scenes.

Many of you took water samples from the small pond at the university with us. You discovered many small inhabitants under the microscope and then determined and painted them with us. There were many great paintings of rowan crabs and water fleas. In our game "The Ocean and Me", you could answer some interesting questions and choose small prizes from our Explorer Treasure Chest! We had an exciting day, got to know many new faces and are looking forward to see you again at the next Open Campus.

If you feel like exploring the world of small inhabitants in a drop of water under a microscope, but do not want to wait until the next Open Campus, we invite you to join us on the Maritime Meile in September at the Bremer Schlachte to visit.

Thanks to all the helpers and many visitors!

We won´t miss that! We, the MPI Bremen, present ourselves on that day in a pagoda tent under the title:

"Small, but mighty: Microorganisms in the ocean"

The smallest inhabitants of our planet are its true rulers: Microorganisms live everywhere in large numbers and ensure that our earth looks the way we know it.

At the Max Planck Institute in Bremen, we investigate the microorganisms in the ocean. Our visitors get an insight into how much life there is in every drop of water and on every grain of sand - even in the Uni-Lake - and into the huge significance these tiny creatures have for all of us.
